Step 2 - Understanding: AUILM® Employee Change Adoption Model

An early major change adoption challenge for the organisation is making sure the employee Understands the business reason for change as well as how it impacts them.


Change Management Adoption: Achieving employee change adoption in a major organisational change or transformation has mixed success, and the ROI benefits are not always realised. For change adoption to be successful, the leaders, sponsor, and change team should support the employees through the change transition by providing Awareness, Understanding, Involvement, Learning, and Motivation for the change.

Understanding: The second tactic is to provide greater insights into the change so that the wider context is understood. This is best done when communicated face-to-face at meetings and events.


The objective is to create an Understanding about why the organisation is making the change and how it will impact employees, as well as what is required from them. Building on an employee’s awareness of the change and explaining exactly what is going to change and how it will impact them helps employees understand and starts to prepare them for change involvement.


Understanding the Overall Change to the Organisation:

Employees will gain an understanding of the business case study and how it fits with the organisation’s strategy.


Change Impact to the Employee:

How the change will impact the way the employee works, their role, job description, department, etc. This will include an understanding of:

  • Changes to existing processes.

  • Changes to existing systems.

  • Support from the organisation’s leaders.
