Leadership of Change® - Change Management Glossary Term

CROCA Leader©: A toxic leadership archetype characterised by change resistance and overly confident autocracy (CROCA). This type of leader systematically impedes and undermines organisational change or transformation through ego-driven, fear-based management practices. They prioritise personal control over collective progress, often leading to a culture of distrust and low morale among team members.

CROCA leaders may exhibit behaviours such as dismissing feedback, stifling innovation, and instilling fear to maintain authority. For example, they might ignore team suggestions during a transformation initiative, insisting on their own vision without considering the input of others. While some leaders may struggle with change due to external pressures, CROCA leaders actively resist progress, creating a toxic environment. Recognising and addressing this leadership style is crucial for fostering a healthy organisational culture and successful change initiatives.
